WorldCom Rolls Out New Monitoring, SMB Connectivity Offers

Paula Bernier
10/23/2002

WorldCom today unveiled WorldCom Dedicated Analysis, which it calls one of the first commercially available end-to-end dedicated Internet access-monitoring tools for companies of all sizes. The company also introduced a new standards-based NxT1 access solution to fill the gap between popular T1 (1.5mbps) and T3 (45mbps) dedicated Internet

connections to WorldCom's UUNET backbone for small- to medium-size businesses.

Through Dedicated Analysis, customers have a tool to monitor their end-to-end Internet network performance at the access level. In fourth quarter of 2002, all WorldCom Dedicated Internet Access customers - including T1, OCn, Ethernet and NxT1 connections to the UUNET backbone - can take advantage of WorldCom's unique new Dedicated Analysis monitoring

tool. Supported by Visual Networks IP performance management technology, WorldCom Dedicated Analysis allows network administrators to monitor the quality and performance of their circuits as needed, on-demand. Network statistics,

including latency and packet loss, are updated daily and can be accessed anywhere, any time, via the secure WorldCom Customer Center (WCC) Web portal.

As for NxT1, that service is designed as a bridge between T1 and T3 capacity. Capitalizing on new standards-based Multi Link Frame Relay (MLFR) technology, NxT1 solution enables customers two to eight T1 lines at a single location. By aggregating T1 circuits together, customers save on local loop costs while gaining greater bandwidth

flexibility and increased reliability through circuit redundancy.

The service is currently available in more than 2,000 U.S. municipalities.
