Switch and Data Launches Content, Entertainment Practice

12/04/2007

Switch and Data said it has launched a new practice focused on the content and entertainment marketplace.

The practice will enhance Switch and Data’s current offerings with specialized expertise to assist digital media and online gaming companies design, develop, and deploy infrastructure platforms, the company said.

Switch and Data has appointed David Reitman, an 18-year industry veteran who was previously with AT&T, as vice president to develop and lead the practice. Reitman joins Switch and Data led AT&T's Digital Media & Online Game Services efforts.

In his role as vice president of Switch and Data’s Content and Entertainment Practice, he is responsible for developing the solutions and features that cater to the needs of this market.

Switch and Data said one of the fastest growing areas in this industry is online gaming, particularly the massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) segment. The servers that run these businesses have very demanding requirements for power, cooling and bandwidth. Switch and Data’s PAIX peering exchange which scales to 10 GigE port speeds and high power density in excess of 200 watts per square foot are suited to support these businesses.

Reitman and his team at AT&T supported the the largest MMOG in the world, as well as numerous other MMOG and digital content sites globally, Switch and Data said.

“The infrastructure needs of the leaders in the content and entertainment industries – from power and cooling to network connectivity and bandwidth – are huge,” said Reitman. “Switch and Data’s facilities satisfy these needs and offer the PAIX peering exchange and the broadest geographic footprint in North America. These help our customers improve the end-user experience by placing their content closer to more eyeballs than other providers in the market.”
