NXTcomm: Allot Delivers on DPI Application Promise

When Allot Communications announced its high-end DPI solution last year, it talked about how it was unique in that it would enable service providers to deliver new revenue-generating services. At NXTcomm this year, Allot delivered on that promise by showcasing four applications based on the Allot Service Gateway, said Bill Mello, the company’s director of marketing for the Americas.

“So, for the service provider, they get the DPI benefits and help implementing the applications,” added Mello.

A security application in Allot’s booth showed how its DPI solution, paired with technology Allot got through its purchase of Esphion in January, can do threat identification and mitigation, including addressing brand new viruses within minutes as opposed to days, said Mello, adding that Tru in Asia has deployed this security application.

Allot also used NXTcomm to highlight a video-caching application, which it has made available to service provider customers through a partnership with Peer App. A third application around VoIP call quality and billing is being delivered by Allot and Qosmos. And partner NebuAd is working with Allot to provide customers with online ad insertion.

Allot’s DPI solution front-ends all of the above applications, explained Mello, so the gateway only forwards the relevant traffic to the partner gear, thus eliminating unneeded packet processing. And because the Allot Service Gateway is an ATCA-based solution, he added, its partners’ solutions possibly could take the form of ATCA blades in the future as well.
