CFO to Leave Qwest

John Richardson, executive vice president and CFO of Qwest Communications International Inc. is resigning.

The departure was "a mutual decision between John and the company," said Diane Reberger, a spokeswoman for Qwest. "We aren't commenting on specific reasons or the timing."

Richardson, 63, has worked for Qwest for five years, although he only replaced Oren Shaffer as CFO last year. Richardson will remain as CFO until Qwest finds a replacement.

In a prepared statement, Ed Mueller, Qwest’s CEO, said Richardson’s efforts helped put the carrier on sound footing, referring to the post-Joe Nacchio years.

“We look forward to identifying the best candidate to replace John,” Mueller said. “In the meantime, we will continue to execute on our strategies.”
