NXTcomm: Juniper Networks Enhances Portfolio of Ethernet Services Routers
06/16/2008
Juniper Networks Inc. announced at NXTcomm this week that it has expanded the range of interface cards for its MX-series portfolio of Ethernet services routers by adding three new interchangeable dense port concentrator (DPC) families. The MX-series enables customers to expand and accelerate the deployment of carrier-class Ethernet networks and services. Interchangeable across the entire MX-series family, the new cards include copper-based tri-rate (10/100/1000) Ethernet DPCs that support low-speed and high-speed interface options; 20gbps DPCs for less power consumption; and multirate DPCs for supporting gigabit and 10-gigabit Ethernet interfaces on a single line card. The new DPC interface cards can be deployed in tandem with existing interface cards, said Juniper. “Juniper has enhanced their market position with the addition of these new line cards that broaden MX-series deployment options and lower costs for both enterprise and service provider customers," said Dave Passmore, research director at Burton Group. "In particular, the MX-series copper interfaces will help address enterprise needs by supporting smaller, limited configuration requirements.” The Tri-rate Ethernet and 20gbps DPCs currently are available, while the multirate DPCs are expected to become available in the second half of 2008.
