SOFTBANK TELECOM Upgrades POP With Switch and Data
04/16/2008
Switch and Data said this week that Japan-based SOFTBANK TELECOM Corp. has upgraded its main U.S. point of presence, located at Switch and Data’s Palo Alto, Calif., site, to accommodate a doubling of its Internet traffic with North American Internet service providers. SOFTBANK TELECOM is preparing for traffic with North America to increase by 100 percent within the next year due to continued growth in its broadband subscriber base. The company uses the Palo Alto Idata center as its main hub in North America to interconnect its network with the networks of other ISPs and content providers. Switch and Data said its Palo Alto site is one of the world’s most densely interconnected Internet exchanges and the key hub where Asian and North American networks meet to aggregate and distribute traffic. “Switch and Data gives us more interconnection choices, faster access to diverse networks and vast peering and Internet transit choices,” said Fumio Terashima, Global IP Peering Coordinator, Deputy Manager, SOFTBANK TELECOM. “These are critical as we scale to meet our anticipated growth.”
