Pronto Networks Beefs Up Distribution to Telcos, Hospitality
Khali Henderson
06/22/2004 Pronto Networks, a provider of carrier-class OSS solutions for large Wi-Fi hotspot networks, announced at SUPERCOMM this week an agreement with telecom distributor Graybar to distribute Pronto’s back-office public Wi-Fi solutions to resellers servicing the telco and hospitality markets. Under the agreement, Graybar will offer Pronto Networks’ complete line of public Wi-Fi solutions, including Pronto’s turnkey Wi-Fi appliance and carrier-grade Wi-Fi OSS software through Graybar’s network of 250 locations in the United States and Canada. Graybar’s sales force will actively promote Pronto’s solutions to Tier 1 and Tier 2 service providers. Ed Ludtke, Graybar’s national product manager, says the Pronto offer is something new for the company to add to its fairly traditional product set for telcos. Pronto Networks rolled out in March a Wi-Fi service delivery appliance designed for sale through the channel. Called Aprisa, it is a rack-mountable 1u form factor ideal for applications of up to 100 hotspots with up to 2,000 users, such as a hotel chain or WISP. Aprisa provides out-of-the-box, back-office functionality for operating public Wi-Fi networks, including access control, prepaid and post-paid billing, QoS controls, customer care, network management and roaming capabilities with major aggregators. Aprisa comes with a quick-start utility which enables easy installation at an operator’s NOC.
