Performance Technologies Offers Signaling Enhancements
Paula Bernier
06/19/2007 Signaling solution veteran Performance Technologies has significant new updates to its product line that are being featured in its booth this week at NXTcomm. That includes doubling the capacity on the company’s SEGway x401 STP and enhancing its SEGway IP-Edge device. With the ability to scale up to 400 SS7 links and 256 M2PA links, the x401 now allows Performance Technologies – which has traditionally focused on international carriers and smaller U.S. telcos – to address the needs of Tier 1 and 2 service providers, said Pat Rice, vice president of the signaling group. M2PA is the SIGTRAN SS7 over IP protocol. The IP-Edge is an existing product, which the company describes as “a signaling gateway with a twist, [because] it has routing capabilities.” What’s new here is that it’s been enhanced from 32 to 64 links; now has high-speed link (HSL) capabilities; and supports 16 M2PA connections. This new version can take traffic and route it directly to the core, something SS7 prevents in cases in which subtending nodes are in place. At the same time, this solution can switch traffic locally to communities of interests in cases in which that makes sense. The HSL capability means service providers can connect to any database to switch traffic locally or send it to the core, added Rice. Performance Technologies www.pt.com
