BEA, HP and Tekelec Push ‘IMS in a Box’

Paula Bernier

The HP-Tekelec Open IMS solution that debuted at CTIA in March has been expanded to include the BEA WebLogic SIP Server. And the three companies, which have been jointly responding to service provider RFPs, have packaged the combined, interoperable solution as “IMS in a Box.”

The trio’s package deal – which is being demoed this week at NXTcomm (Booths 1539 and 5915), and is deployed in HP’s Experience Center in Texas for third-party application integration and testing prior to deployment with operators – is designed to enable the delivery of services spanning wireless and wireline networks.

In addition to BEA’s Java EE SIP server, the solution includes HP’s OpenCall home subscriber server (HSS). Also part of IMS in a Box is the Tekelec TekCore Session Manager, a call state control function (CSCF) platform that also provides SIP signaling router functionality.

Adding the BEA solution into the fold brings in the important aspect of new services enablement, which is really a key justification for IMS. The threesome will be demoing five applications at the show. Among the applications being demoed are video blogging and prepaid/postpaid applications from Ericpol, a unified messaging application from Intervoice, and a ringback tone application from Telenity.
